My name is Cody Hendsbee and I am honoured to be coaching the Silver Seven U18 AA team during the 2022-2023 season. On behalf of the Silver Seven association, I would like to welcome all players trying out for this team. I would also like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and give you an overview of my coaching philosophy and my expectations for the year.

I am very passionate about the game and I find it very rewarding being on the ice/bench developing young athletes. My goal is not only to develop them as hockey players but as young people who are learning the importance of teamwork, communication and leadership.

Over the course of the season, one of my main focus areas will be developing strong technical and tactical skills. I will work with the players to increase their understanding of the game and improve their ability to make decisions on the ice. Practices will be structured, focused and high tempo. At the U18 level, we are looking to allow players to play at a competitive level while individually getting better at their craft.

As with any competitive sports team, commitment and communication play major roles. To be successful they are required on everyone’s part, from the bench staff to the players to the parents. Since we are a U18 team, players will be responsible for communication between themselves and the coaching staff, this is imperative to prepare the player for the next step!

All team events, whether they be games, practices, off-ice training or team building, are considered mandatory. If a player will not be able to make a team event for any reason, it is the players' responsibility to reach out to a coaching staff member. We ask that if a player is to miss a game, it is brought to the coaching staff’s attention no later than 24 hours before a game. (exceptions for illness).

You can expect 4-5 team events per week on average. We will try and combine the dry-land sessions with one of the weekly ice times. I will also be looking to bring out guest coaches, academic advisors, fitness/conditioning coaches and nutrition consultants to work with the team. The coaching staff will work with each player to put together a development plan for the season and help them meet their individual and team goals. Together we will ensure our young athletes have the most rewarding and best year possible.

My expectation is that players always do their best and are prepared to compete in both games and practices. In return, players and parents can expect the same from me and the bench staff.

I want to wish all players the best of luck during the tryouts and I look forward to seeing everyone at the rink.
