Police Record Checks

The OVSS's screening process for volunteers includes the use of Police Record Checks (PRC) conducted through the Ottawa Police Service as one means to identify any person whose past actions may suggest a potential threat to children or vulnerable adults based on the following considerations.

Timing of PRC Completions

OVSS volunteers who may have contact with children or vulnerable adults in the course of their duties are required to complete PRC forms annually, based on the following schedule:

  • OVSS Executive must complete a PRC consent form within two months of their appointment, whichever is later; and
  • Coaches, assistant coaches, managers and trainers must complete a PRC consent form within one month after assuming their respective roles.
  • This includes Dressing Room Monitors.
  • The Executive Committee must remove any individual failing to submit a completed PRC consent form within the required time frame from his or her roles immediately.

OVSS Provides letters to volunteers so the PRC cost is waived, they are issued at the coach/manager meeting or by contacting the President.

The Police Record Check (Vulnerable Sector Check) can be completed online or in person.

PRC's submitted to OVSS are valid for 3 years.
